On August 15, 2017, The Seventh Wave teamed up with Say Yes Electric Collective and featured dancer Ty Douglas to host a performative night embracing the human body.
Entitled “In This Body” and hosted at Dixon Place, six deep talents took the stage to deliver performances that investigated shapes, boundaries, and belonging: Ty Douglas, Jerron Herman, Marcus Jade, Omotara James, Jessica Hale, Matthew L Thompson.
Safety and security are not afforded to every body. Many communities live under a certain pressure and terror exerted by their surroundings. We want to confront those pressures, and allow personal struggles to surface and strengthen our bonds with our own bodies and those around us. We are focused on creating a safe environment, where performing artists and audience alike can share insecurities about the micro-aggressions they face on a daily basis because of the bodies they exist in.
It is a chance to use your art as a tool to serve the narrative of your physicality.
