About Rhinebeck Residency:

The Seventh Wave held its first annual residency in July 2016. The three-day program was designed to provide writers, artists, and creatives a physical interlude: a place and space outside the everyday to think, write, and converse, both with each other and The Seventh Wave editors over shared meals, one-on-one check-ins, and nightcaps.

The following year, in 2017, The Seventh Wave expanded its residency to include a sunset soirée on the final day of the program, which gave residents the chance to read their work alongside distinguished authors in front of a live audience (not to mention a historic barn). The sunset soirée also doubled as The Seventh Wave’s first annual fundraiser, and included a not-so-silent auction that had everything an artist needs: massages, whiskey, books signed by Annie Dillard, 10 hours of free website design for your site & portfolio, three-day retreats to Cape Cod and elsewhere, plus free monthly memberships to places like Paragraph NY.

In 2018, The Seventh Wave invited two writers and two visual artists to The Crystal Cottage for three days of creation, community, and for the first time ever, a collaborative workshop that encouraged residents to share their thoughts about each other’s work to help dive deeper into the conversation with intentionality. Our four residents were also given the opportunity to share their work with a gathered crowd for The Seventh Wave’s second annual sunset soirée alongside readers from PANK magazine and Say Yes Electric Collective

We are indebted to everyone who helps make our annual residencies possible, most especially Art at the Birches, the sponsor that makes The Crystal Cottage available to The Seventh Wave, and to Steph Jagger and Chris Rutgers, who have graciously welcomed us into The Bloedel Bunkhouse, all entirely free to our residents.
